Chosen Child, watercolour
A couple who had been unsuccessfully trying to have children for eight years, were greeted on a Christmas Eve with this little girl, as a newborn baby. She was a gift from heaven. A close friend of theirs got a snapshot of her aged two, in the garden, and commissioned this painting. However, while the photograph was in perfect focus, only the front of the child was in the picture, and the background was the unattractive underneath of a deck. I added the rest of the child, what I thought the little dress and diaper pants might have looked like, and simplified the background. I also painted the girl “life size”.
